Length/ Space contraction.
is the phenomenon of a decrease in length of an object as measured by an observer who is traveling at any non-zero velocity relative to the object.
This contraction (more formally called Lorentz contraction or Lorentz–FitzGerald contraction after Hendrik Lorentz and George Francis FitzGerald) is usually only noticeable at a substantial fraction of the speed of light. Length contraction is only in the direction parallel to the direction in which the observed body is travelling. For standard objects, this effect is negligible at everyday speeds, and can be ignored for all regular purposes. Only at greater speeds, or for electron motion, does it become significant. At a speed of 13,400,000 m/s (30 million mph, 0.0447c) contracted length is 99.9% of the length at rest; at a speed of 42,300,000 m/s (95 million mph, 0.141c), the length is still 99%. As the magnitude of the velocity approaches the speed of light, the effect becomes dominant, as can be seen from the formula:

where
L0 is the proper length (the length of the object in its rest frame),
L is the length observed by an observer in relative motion with respect to the object,
v is the relative velocity between the observer and the moving object,
c is the speed of light,
and the Lorentz factor, γ(v), is defined as
\gamma (v) \equiv \frac{1}{\sqrt{1-v^2/c^2}} \ .
In this equation it is assumed that the object is parallel with its line of movement. For the observer in relative movement, the length of the object is measured by subtracting the simultaneously measured distances of both ends of the object. For more general conversions, see the Lorentz transformations. An observer at rest viewing an object travelling very close to the speed of light would observe the length of the object in the direction of motion as very near zero.

25 years of fighting for human rights in Burma!

This year we mark our 25th anniversary. From our beginnings as a small solidarity group in the wake of the military crackdown after the 1990 election in Burma, we have built the campaign to become the leading Burma campaign group in the world, working with activists from Burma to achieve real change.
With our supporters, we have stood in solidarity with activists in Burma in their struggle for human rights and democracy.
Over 25 years, we have helped secure the release of thousands of political prisoners. We have helped ensure aid has reached hundreds of thousands of people who have fled attacks by the Burmese Army. We have played a leading role in mobilising international attention and pressure on the military regime in Burma.
25 years on, we can see how your support has made a difference. We can see dramatic changes in Burma. But the job isn’t done yet. People in Burma, especially from ethnic and religious minorities, are still asking for our support. We must work to make sure that those most vulnerable are not left behind.
After 25 years, we have a lot to celebrate but also a lot of work ahead.

As we come to the end of 2016, the 25th anniversary of the founding of Burma Campaign UK, it has been a momentous year in Burma.

Some of the things we have campaigned on for so long have been achieved. Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy has finally been able to lead the government. There is great hope among many people in Burma that now at last they will be able to reduce human rights violations and improve the lives of ordinary people.

But at the same time there are reasons to be very concerned. The military are not under the control of the NLD-led government and are still committing horrific human rights violations.

In Kachin and Shan states, an increase in conflict with the Burmese Army in recent weeks has displaced 20,000 people on top of the 100,000 already forced to flee their homes

In Rakhine State, the Burmese army stands accused of killing hundreds of Rohingya and raping dozens of women, while 130,000 people have gone two months without the lifesaving aid they depend on.

"A very nice letter from Vladimir Putin; his thoughts are so correct," Trump said in a statement. "I hope both sides are able to live up to these thoughts, and we do not have to travel an alternate path."
The release of the letter comes days after Russia voiced complaints about its relationship with the US under the Obama administration. On Thursday, Trump tweeted that the US "must greatly strengthen and expand its nuclear capability,” hours after Putin pledged to enhance his country's nuclear forces.
Trump reportedly told MSNBC on Friday, "Let it be an arms race."
At his marathon annual news conference on Thursday, Putin said that the US and Russia "need to discuss ways to normalize our relations. During his election campaign, Trump said it would be proper to normalize, and it can't be worse, and I agree with him."
Sharp rhetoric from the US and Russia has stemmed from disagreements over crises in Syria and Ukraine, and allegations by the US that Russia covertly interfered in the 2016 election -- to the advantage of Trump, according to the intelligence community.

One of the two black boxes on a Russian military jet that crashed into the Black Sea with 92 people on board has been found, the country's Defense Ministry said, according to the state-run Sputnik news agency.
The flight data recorder was found 1,600 meters from the shore at a depth of 17 meters, the ministry said in a statement. The other black box -- the cockpit voice recorder -- is still missing. The ministry has said there are unlikely to be any survivors. Thirteen bodies have been recovered so far.

President-elect Donald Trump will dissolve the Trump Foundation, the charitable foundation in his name.
"The foundation has done enormous good works over the years in contributing millions of dollars to countless worthy groups, including supporting veterans, law enforcement officers and children.
However, to avoid even the appearance of any conflict with my role as President, I have decided to continue to pursue my strong interest in philanthropy in other ways," Trump said in a statement.
The foundation has been the subject of much criticism, including allegations Trump spent money from the foundation to settle some legal disputes.
The foundation admitted to violating IRS rules by improperly giving money to someone close to the organization, according to a recent federal income tax filing.
The foundation is under investigation by the New York State attorney general's office. In its 2015 tax returns, the foundation reported having assets of $1,115,991.

In quantum mechanics, the uncertainty principle, also known as Heisenberg's uncertainty principle, is any of a variety of mathematical inequalities[1] asserting a fundamental limit to the precision with which certain pairs of physical properties of a particle, known as complementary variables, such as position x and momentum p, can be known.
Introduced first in 1927, by the German physicist Werner Heisenberg, it states that the more precisely the position of some particle is determined, the less precisely its momentum can be known, and vice versa.[2] The formal inequality relating the standard deviation of position σx and the standard deviation of momentum σp was derived by Earle Hesse Kennard[3] later that year and by Hermann Weyl[4] in 1928:

Historically, the uncertainty principle has been confused[5][6] with a somewhat similar effect in physics, called the observer effect, which notes that measurements of certain systems cannot be made without affecting the systems, that is, without changing something in a system. Heisenberg offered such an observer effect at the quantum level (see below) as a physical "explanation" of quantum uncertainty.[7] It has since become clear, however, that the uncertainty principle is inherent in the properties of all wave-like systems,[8] and that it arises in quantum mechanics simply due to the matter wave nature of all quantum objects. Thus, the uncertainty principle actually states a fundamental property of quantum systems, and is not a statement about the observational success of current technology.[9]
It must be emphasized that measurement does not mean only a process in which a physicist-observer takes part, but rather any interaction between classical and quantum objects regardless of any observer.[10] [note 1]
Since the uncertainty principle is such a basic result in quantum mechanics, typical experiments in quantum mechanics routinely observe aspects of it.
Certain experiments, however, may deliberately test a particular form of the uncertainty principle as part of their main research program.
These include, for example, tests of number–phase uncertainty relations in superconducting[12] or quantum optics[13] systems.
Applications dependent on the uncertainty principle for their operation include extremely low-noise technology such as that required in gravitational wave interferometers.[14]
